Where do you all recommend staying for TUCOM-MI and TUCOM-NV interviews? Did you all rent a car or take shuttles, etc. to get to campus from the airport?

I stayed at the Hampton Inn for the TUCOM-NV interview. They have a nice discount for Touro and it's 2 minutes away from school.

i stayed on the strip for TUCOM NV. The cab ride was around $30 (app. 15 minutes) and she luckily gave me her number to have her pick me up. Thinking back, renting a car probably would have been my best bet. No matter where you stay though, do be careful with relying on taxis. Good Luck!

if you are over 25 years old, renting a car at the airport can cost $18 per day (Budget).

NEVADA- Call campus and get the numbers of some students that are willing to put up an interviewee for the night/drive them to campus. Last year, they sent out a list of these people along with the interview info.

There's not much to see around Henderson, so unless you HAVE to have a car, I'd get the shuttle or a cab.

CALI-

Definitely take the shuttle; there's a lot of risk of getting REALLY lost in the bay area if you haven't been here before, and trust me, you DO NOT want to end up somewhere in downtown Oakland. Stay in the Quality Inn that the school recommends; you get to fraternize with other interviewees in the AM before the interview, and you also get the benefit of the complimentary shuttle from the hotel to the school and back. You want to do this because getting to and from campus can be dicey if you don't know your way around, and mapquest/google maps are no good for the campus area.

Good luck!

Hi mj,

I'm staying in San Francisco with a friend a few days before my interview on Oct 16th, and was planning on taking the ferry that morning to Vallejo, but was wondering how to get from the dock to the school, (or maybe the Quality Inn). Are there cabs in Vallejo? Thanks!

I'm flying into the San Francisco airport. I assume I'll have to rent a car to get to campus from there...there's directions on the school's website. Hint: if you go to Priceline.com and name your own price for a rental car, it's much cheaper!

i'm staying at the Quality Inn and not risking getting lost. but i'm making a mini vacation out of it and hanging out with some cousins that i havent seen in a while. only the night before will i stay at the hotel.

i never understood how priceline.com works.. what if i just put $1 as my own price?

Concerning http://www.priceline.com you can say you want to rent a car for $1 a day, but a company has to be willing to accept your offer. If you bid $1, then priceline will suggest that you increase your bid and will suggest the range that you should be looking at - a more competitive rate.

can your bid include the location where you want to pick the car up (i.e. at the airport and not the boonies?)

For Tucom-MI stay at the hotel they recommend and then take the shuttle! It's easy and it's free. And a big bonus is you will start talking to people before you even get to the school, which will relax you and at least get you talking a little before you are in the spotlight.

Here at Touro-NV I would recommend renting a car. I think we have a program set up for people to drive you and for places to stay...so inquire about this.
Although Roger is the best admissions director you will meet on your interview trail, and will understand if you are late due to taxi problems, there is no reason to add that stress to the situation. Between wondering whether the cab will actually show up, whether they will know how to get to the school, and then if they don't show, the stress involved in that, it is just worth renting a car.

Damn, I interview this Tuesday; are cabs really that unreliable? I was planning on cab. Would someone be able to come pick me up at the wonderful Terrible's Hotel and Casino?

For NV, Sunset Station or Green Valley Station are two big casinos close to Touro, Sunset Station is right there, but Green Valley Station has a nice little nightlife spot called The Dictrict. Also, the laws in vegas/henderson don't allow cabs to pick up fares curbside, you have to go to a designated pick-up spot(Casinos), or call the cab company directly.

For TUCOM-NV, I stayed at the Doubletree by the airport. It was fairly cheap ~$80 and virtually a straight shot on the 215 to the school. Traffic was not a problem and I got to the school in 10 minutes. I rented a car. A little expensive being under 25, but well worth it when considering the convienence and freedom to visit any casino you'd like in the area.

How does the rental car thing work? Do you pick it up at the airport?

make a reservation with one of the companies...and yes you pick it up at the airport.

Hello all,

I wil be at the henderson Fiesta on the 2nd of Oct. and will have a rental car so if anybody wants a ride let me know.

Yea, I reserved my car online, then picked up the shuttle at door 11, i think. The fiesta is maybe 5 minutes away, if that. I liked the three dollar craps and made 20 bucks...paid for the gas I guess. I wish gaming was free....and smoke free
