I don't know what states you are thinking about applying in, but the Cal Polys are excellent (San Luis Obispo and Pomona)- not to mention that you get to live in California 🙂. They are inexpensive and you can be an animals science major with a pre-vet focus. The really great thing about these schools is the learn by doing motto. By the time you graduate you will not only be familiar with, for instance, reproductive anatomy, you will also have experience with palpating, semen collection, etc. I don't know how many other schools are conducted this way, but I have found it very rewarding. I believe they are changing the program a bit in the next few years so that undergrads begin as animal science majors and have to prove themselves before they can take the pre-vet option. I'm not quite sure how this will work... I also can't say how Penn or Tufts might view your application (it is a state school) but I haven't had any issues with the schools I applied to. I hope you enjoy your US college experience!
