where to volunteer

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
A hospital will have many areas to volunteer in. Also, check for cancer walks, they always need volunteers too.

Definitely go to a hospital - ask their general volunteering office about volunteering in a specific area like pharmacy.

but the thing is that i'm not interested in hospital pharmacy........btw what exactly do they make u do in hosp pharm do u know??

We make you clean our Pyxis.

I think for a better pharmacy experience, you should try to get a job as a pharm tech. If you volunteer at a pharmacy, they will probably only let you do bitch-work and you have like no responsibilities. Whereas in a job environment, they expect you to do certain things because it's your job and your getting paid for it. I dont know...if I was on the adcom, I'd favor job experiences more than volunteering. And plus, some people cheat their volunteering hours. I know a couple of people that are applying for dental school that just had their dentist sign off hours and said they volunteered.

There are free clinics in inner cities run by volunteering nurses, doctors, and pharmacists... you can work for them...

Or go spend a year in an Indian Reservation volunteering... that will get you in Pharmacy School...

Just a word of advice....

The school I am going to 1st apply to considers volunteering in a hospital pharmacy "career exploration" and not "volunteering", just to let you know.

But this might not be true for all schools, probally just the one im intereted in since they dont use pcat, im guessing the standards are tougher.

iam actually volunteering for the handicap in a institute of disabled people. there are alot of pre mds and pre pharmacy students getting real volunteer hours through work study programs. i would check with your school financial aid office they should have lists of places where you can volunteer and get paid by financial aid. but at the place you volunteer at doesn't pay for you. so when you apply to graduate school, it will look great on your record. plus youre helping the world and having extra karma points.🙂
