Hi all,
I'm an IV pharmacy tech with long term care pharmacy and infusion therapy experience. I currently work at a cancer center. I'm moving to Cairo, Egypt and would love some suggestions from those who have a good idea what I could do there. Retail pharmacy is out, as it's completely different. It's very difficult finding contact info for drug companies. What could I do for a drug manuf? Maybe QA since I know aseptic technique?

Working for a hospital may be a possibility, but these are generally local posts (meaning I'd have to be fluent in Arabic) and pay local pay scale, which is not enough to maintain my current lifestyle.

Anyone who has worked in a developing country or know someone who has, please chime in! 🙂

Your current lifestyle is over if you are expecting a pharm tech job over there to support your lifestyle.

Have lots of Egypt pharmacists contacting UK forums desperate to go to UK. Perhaps you could represent someone importing meds etc to Egypt. In any case as others have said, expect your living standards to crash to third world levels unless you can get an expat job.

What would be a good expat job that would utilize my healthcare background? I've looked into the private American and British schools as a teaching assistant, but they want teaching credentials. I don't know where else to look.

Representing health care cos importing into Egypt, if there are any.

Charitable foundations, such as world vision Unicef etc. They now expect to pay workers.

dude, are you serious??? Egypt??? lol, from all the places in the world...

look, im from egypt and can tell you that there's no job for you, heck physicians and pharmacists can't find a job.

You might find a decent job in QA at a multinational company such Novartis, Serveir, or Lilly, but still the pay won't be that good. Where are you from?

Also, i don't think that you'll like living here, IT SUCKS!! >_< Living standards is down the drain, um... don't think about driving a car, there are practically no rules on the streets.. 😛

dunno what else..

Tour guide. I hear the light and sound show at the Pyramids of Giza is a spectacle.

I nearly caused an international incident on another forum when I suggested Egypt may have been better under the British. At least they could all hate the Brits instead of fighting each other.

haha I actually meant "do" as in for a job. And I hear the sound and light show is beyond cheesy, which is why I skipped it my first two visits 🙂

Well, #1 I'm a dudette 🙂

I know Egypt is far from ideal for living conditions. It happens that my love is Egyptian and so I will move there to further explore our relationship. I've been twice, and just returned last Sunday from the second trip. I stayed in a flat and drove from 6th October to Maadi. The driving looked ridiculous as a passenger and was nail biting as a driver. I narrowly avoided hitting at least 4 pedestrians crossing the Ring road.

So now the first challenge is finding a job. I love pharmacy but I'm not finding anything. As you know, retail pharmacies are certainly different than in the US, and I've never done retail here anyway, so I was looking at IV compounding at a hospital, or maybe the cancer institute, as I am currently working at a cancer center in the States.

I guess healthcare is going to be out.

Contact the US embassy or consul and find out where US expats go for treatment. That would be ideal for you. Could even be a US hospital in Cairo.

Your story reminds me of Ruth and Boaz.

lol, BFE as the saying goes...

I don't want to be an unromantic cynic, but male attitudes tend to change once back in traditional society where his mother rules the home.

Lots of UK girls got carried away by 'sheikh' romance when on holiday in middle Eastern countries. Suddenly they find their romantic husband behaving as the rest of the men do when back home.
