Hello. This summer I'm going to graduate from college with a 3.5-3.6 gpa. During the fall I want to prepare to apply to medical school in the following spring. I'm going to be living in the Maryland-DC area. There appear to be a large number of formal post-baccalaureate pre-med programs in the area, but I was wondering if they are really worth the cost. I am already deeply in debt, and am tempted to take (day) classes at the University of Maryland-College Park, where I would pay resident tuition, in order to save money. However, if there is an outstanding program that does not cost much more than classes at Maryland, and allows me to take classes during the day, then I would love to hear about it! What do you think, formal program or not? Eagerly awaiting responses.....

why are considering postbacc? are you lacking prereqs? your gpa seems pretty good. mb you should spend the year on ECs and make some $$$

listen to m.
speaking of listening to her... so m, is it still all quiet on the application front? (I know that silence all too well.)

Thanks for your reply.

I've taken both semesters of general chem, the first semester of o-chem, some calculus, and the first semester of physics. I got a C in physics (I had a lot of problems unrelated to school that semester) which I want to retake, but I have a good overall science GPA. So I have five pre-reqs left to take. I can't really do those five classes in one semester, and if I am going to spread them out over two semesters I thought it would be a good idea to take a full load to show med schools that I can excel in an intense science curriculum. So I thought if I were taking that many science classes I might get other benefits from being in a post-bacc program. But I don't know if that's true or not. I also badly need ECs. That is another major consideration.
