I'm a Year 1 (in 4-year program) international medical student from Australia, and I want to practice in Canada/US in the future. My program has a 1-month elective in 1st year, and also electives in 4th year as well.
I'll definitely try to do all my 4th year electives in Canada, but I'm not sure how good a Year 1 elective in Canada would help in the long run. Certainly the Year1 elective wouldn't get me any good or useful LOR.
However, would completing a Year 1 elective make it easier for me to secure Year4 elective placements in Canada? Would the Canadian Medical schools looking at elective application form give me preference?
Any advice much appreciate.
Thanks!
