Hi, I'm new to the boards. Please forgive me if I have this is in the wrong spot or do some other typical newbie thing. xD

I am currently at ABAC in Tifton, GA. It is a 2 year school that just went 4 year. They don't have pre-dent as a 4 year program yet. I am a freshman this year and am trying to figure out which school to transfer to and when. Should I commute 45 minutes to the nearest University (Valdosta)? Should I go ahead and move to Augusta, where the dental school is located? Would the 4 year in Augusta better prep me for dental school?

A little about me.. my husband is also pre-dent. I have two kids. I don't have a mortgage or anything tying me to the city.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Although there are many things you need to do before applying, GPA and DAT scores are the most important factors. If I were you, I would just go to the one where I can maintain a better GPA. I don't know about other people, but my friends and I sometimes wish we went to a school where the competition is far less.

Go where the school is located. You will find there are numerous advantages to attending an undergrad institution that also has a dental school. Often there will be classes available for undergrads at the dental school. It also gives you the opportunity to observe in the clinic, assist with research and meet faculty and staff.

Finish your transfer requirements at the community college you are at and then move. If you do well at both CC and a university you should have no reason not to get into dental school. That's what I did anyway..

This is key. I would go to the school that has a dental school. Call a pre-health advisor at at that school and chat with him or her about what steps you need to take to put you in a good position to be able to apply.

Thank you all for your responses. When would you suggest moving to the 4 year next to the dental school? Next year or after I graduate from the 2 year? I'm not sure how much difference it makes. I really just want to try to open the best options for myself and my husband.
