This is a fool's errand. Both are competitive.

Applicant 2 is easily much more competitive. Higher gpa means stronger work ethic and more hardworking. Leading a service trip is nothing to sneeze at. Clearly more service oriented and the club tennis shows that he/she is open to taking out some time to just chill and focus on physical wellbeing. I wouldn't apply to the same program as applicant 2 if they're both from the same school.

Jk Lmfaoo. I only said that because I knew you're applicant 1. Adcoms rarely do side-by-side comparisons, and that's only if it's down to the last few interview slots/seats. You gotta chill and not be comparing yourself with others every second of your life. I did that for a very long time and it's not healthy at all. You start to enjoy your life much more when you don't do that.

Both seem competitive so far. Let your MCAT scores, PS and secondary essays, and interviews be the tie-breakers.

There's more to it than just numbers and work/experience. One key thing is the mission statement of the school. If your application shows you have a passion that aligns with their mission statement, someone with somewhat lower numbers than you can be just as, if not more competitive. At least, from what I've seen about people who get into med school with substandard stats, but ask @Goro. He/she would be better for insight on this.

GPA and ECs are only a part of the whole application. There is also MCAT, which is a huge part, secondaries, personal statement, and interview. Also, depending on the school one might be more competitive than the other. Each school looks for certain traits and focuses on different things. It is very hard to decide which one is more competitive without looking at everything else.

However, both of you have good GPAs and ECs that are on par with many medical schools

I want some opinions on this because I haven't had time to check it out in-depth. Does anyone know if secondaries align very well with the school's mission statement? As in you can get an idea of their mission statement just by looking at their secondaries? If so, the secondaries that are a breeze to you should be your top choices because what they are looking for, you have it.

I am not sure I understand your question correctly. "As in you can get an idea of their mission statement just by looking at their secondaries?" You do not have to look up secondaries to know the mission of the school. You can simply find it written on their website!!

Knowing the mission of the school, and more about the vision, goals, and the curriculum is very important to show that you are interested in the school. Secondaries are used from schools to learn about the applicant traits, personality, and writing abilities.
