which applicant would get the better residency?

so, here is the scenario, who would have better chances at a good position:

candidate #1)
average boards
avg grades
avg letters
avg 3rd year
...basically all avg med student

candidate #2)
above average scores, except one failure 2nd year (with remediation)
kills the step 1 (lets say 240+)
3rd year with excellent scores.

who is better off and how much better off? who would you rather be
 
Dude, don't stress out. You will be fine. Concentrate on the remediation and the boards. Don't worry about hypotheticals.
 
Can't change what's already happened. Just focus on acing everything else.

The answer is applicant 3. The all star who happens to have killed Step 1, Year 3, his pre-clinicals, has amazing research, and amazing LORs.
 
Just move on from the fact that you failed an MS-II class - make sure to rock Step 1 and your MS-III rotations.
