I have about 4 years of research experience, one year at the NIH. I want to apply for an MD/PhD but I was wondering which schools would take a lot of weight in terms of research for the MD only route, if I cannot get into the dual MD/PhD program.
Which are the most research-oriented medical schools in Texas?

UTSW and Baylor probably. Maybe UTH as well with TMC and all.

UTH would be a notch above SA and Galveston if their basic science research was stronger (although it looks like they're looking to strengthen that component in the coming years). The clinical research opportunities in the TMC are boundless, though.

I am in a similar boat; heavy on the research side. When creating my school list, I am using research ranking as a tool to estimate my chances when applying. Schools that are not in top 100 research rank will still appreciate your research, but it will probably hold less weight than, say, clinical volunteering or shadowing.
I have an excel sheet with all of this info and am using US world report rankings to help me organize my school list.
Here is what I have so far. Sorry, this does not include Texas schools, but the info might be interesting to you. If there is no number, the school is not ranked in the top 100 .... I HOPE THIS HELPS! 🙂
