Hello,

I'm preparing for the MCAT and the BS section is causing me difficulty. I am planning to take either Animal Physiology, Microbiology or Biochem this fall. Which one or two of those classes do you think would help me the most?

Thanks a lot! 🙂

If there's a premed biology curriculum (usually two classes) - that's what you want to take, it'll be directed toward the MCAT.

If you've already taken those, and you're looking to suppliment, you really can't go wrong with Micro or Biochem. Neither of those are going to be strictly necessary though, so if you're just taking a class and think Animal Phys might be more fun, I'd do that instead.

I would probably choose Biochem, as some schools recommend or require it, and you can get a couple birds with one stone that way.

Out of those 3 I would probably choose physiology, with biochem a close second. Really though you shouldn't depend on these classes to help you on the MCAT. You can learn everything you need to in a Kaplan review book.

I studied from ExamKrackers biology book and my BS score still sucks. I am so disappointed. 🙁 Do you think I should work on test-taking technique instead of taking more bio classes? (I am not a biology major.)

Anything more advanced than a general bio course will most likely be too specific for what you're looking for. It's a question of diminishing returns - the time spent in one of those classes would probably be better spent studying gen bio on your own or taking a gen bio class.

To answer your question though, I'd have to agree with jimmerjammermrk - physiology first, followed by biochem, with micro definitely last.

I already took general bio I and II. I haven't taken any other biology courses aside from that. My BS score on the MCAT isn't very good though. 🙁 Any tips on how to improve it?

thanks

i would definitely take the physiology class

I took physio as an undergraduate and I feel like it gave me a huge boost for the MCAT
