I know there are a lot of books out there and that most ppl really like EK (me including), but do you guys found any other books helpfull?

So did you decide to study on your own or are you still thinking about doing the Kaplan online?

i decided to study on my own...I emailed Jon Orsay asking for a 10 week schedule for EK home study. I used it then to write my own schedule (7 months). I started reviewing already but i wanted to supplement EK with some other books. I have Kaplan course books but i do not find them that great.

I have EK and Kaplan materials myself...and sometimes I get overwhelmed having all of these review books. Trying to get the PR Science/Verbal Workbooks and In-Class Compendium from a friend to use for more practice.

personally i like EK the best. The only problem is that sometimes they really do not go into much detail, which can be seen in this April MCATers paranoya on SDN. But i guess guju is right. The best thing would be to supplement where you need on your text books.

I'd only use one set of review materials as your core materials and use the other materials to supplement any thing that may not have been in the other materials. For instance, Kaplan goes over this reaction involving mcPBA to make an epoxide but EK doesn't go over that reaction. So if you are using EK as your primary source of information, go ahead and use that and then flip through the big Kaplan book or your Kaplan course books and fill in the blanks which they go over but EK doesn't.

For me I used my TPR books for my main review but then I went back through certain parts of the EK books because they went over concepts not found in TPR's books. So I used them to fill in the blanks on those things TPR doesn't really explain. I also went into the big Kaplan book once or twice for simple reference to a couple of reactions.

Hey guju,

Yeah I agree with you. I was using EK primarily for review and supplemented with Kaplan materials, but now I'm looking through the online stuff that I printed out from Kaplan when I took the class from last year (I have binders and binders of their online stuff 😱 ). However, I found that EK is really weak in Organic Chem so I used school notes and Kaplan.

I just got the whole TPR package from a friend today. Oh my gosh so many books so little time 😱 . I think what I will do is to use EK as my primary review books (+ foundation review from Kaplan for high yield notes) and use Kaplan and TPR for reference (don't think I'll be needing the textbooks anymore). However, I will definitely do as many passage problems as possible....topical tests from Kaplan, science/verbal workbook from TPR, mini-mcats from EK, and Verbal FL from all three companies. I definitely have my hands full :scared: .
