Hello! For a volunteer organization, I am considering joining one of their committees, but am not sure which one would be viewed most favorably. The options are:
-Fundraising Committee
-Volunteer Outreach Committee
-Community Awareness and Outreach Committee

Thanks in advance for any input!

Hi there,

I wouldn't say any of those would necessarily be viewed more favorably than another. Pick whatever you would enjoy the most! Consider your natural skill set and see what position would most benefit with you being there. That will also make it much easier to talk about along the interview trail. In the grand scheme of things, which of the three you pick is insignificant.

Do what you are interested in. Medical school admissions won't differentiate.

Does one of them allow you interact with the people that the organization is trying to help?
Would any of them allow you to test your leadership potential by giving you the oversight of others working toward a common goal?
Do any allow you to come up with original ideas and do the work to put them into action?
Do any of the options give you a feeling of excitement that you'd be privileged to get involved?

I am going to be mentoring a family for the organization, regardless of whether or not I join a committee.
As to the other questions, yes for all of the committees.

The Community Awareness and Outreach Committee organizes events, speaking engagements, and educates the community.
The Volunteer Outreach Committee presents about the organization at community groups/gatherings to try to recruit more volunteers.
The Fundraising Committee does grant research, fundraising events, and campaigns.

As you are interested in a strategic choice, I suggest you should pick the one with the most potential for leadership, unless you have another substantial leadership activity already. In that case, pick one that lets you utilize your people skills and problem-solving abilities.

None of them are "viewed more favorably." Since it's all community service/volunteering, what matters is if it's a cause you care about and something you enjoy.

I suppose I could join both the Community Outreach and Awareness Committee and the Fundraising Committee. I think the former will involve more people skills and the fundraising will involve more problem-solving.

Thanks for y'all's input!

Don't spread yourself too thin. It might be good to check out the time commitments for each before signing on.

See which position works better with your schedule. Go for the one where you will feel more fulfilled/satisfied with the type of service you are providing. Focus on doing really well in 1 committee rather than mediocre in 2.
