I'm trying to figure out which EM conference to attend this year.

I was going to go to Las Vegas in October for the board review course, but my Assistant PD is going (the week before his recert). He's not a bad guy, but I don't really want to spend the week in Vegas with him.

ACEP is out due to scheduling conflicts.

SAEM in San Fransisco might be a possibility, but I'm up for something interesting and focused (airway, critical care, cruise medicine, hyperbarics...) if anybody has any ideas.

If you want something focused, depending on your ultrasound experience, there are several courses out there.

Gulf Coast Ultrasound offers several courses throughout the year including emergency medicineu ultrasound and advanced emergency medicine ultrasound. It is located on St. Petersburgh Beach in Florida.

Any recommendations for 3rd year resident preparing for community world? Difficult airway, billing or legal, ACEP? More than enough ultrasound at my program so that's the only emphasis off the table

Go to ACEP and pick all the courses that sound horribly painful. There's going to be very little clinically that you won't have recently been exposed to coming from residency. So stay away from updates in peds, cards, trauma, etc and go to billing, conflict resolution (managing the difficult consultant, communicating with nurses and admin), PG, etc. It wasn't until 3 years out that I started hitting clinical points that I hadn't heard about (or had forgotten) in residency or listening to EM:RAP. The other point is that if you know what shop you'll end up in then take courses on stuff you won't be seeing. My first shop had a dedicated peds ED, so my 2nd year out I went to pretty much every peds course they offered. Which helped when I moved to a shop that sees 20-30% kids the next year.
