I think I've decided to certify in CPR, but am overwhelmed with all the different certification options. None of the DPT programs I'm applying to require it, but I figure that having it will make my applications look that much better. It's so competitive, every little perk on applications count! So, I'm wondering, should I go with a general CPR/First Aid certification, or go with one specifically for health care workers? Any feedback would be helpful!

I went with the Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers through the American Heart Association. I didn't really look into any other certs though. BLS was just the one my internship site wanted.

AHA or Red Cross are the preferred I believe. Mine is the BLS AHA which I did at a hospital. Only takes three hours or so.

I'm a nationally registered EMT as I pondered with the idea of PA school at one point in time. I accumulated several hundred hours as an EMT, will PT programs find this attractive? I have it listed but I have no idea if it will help me or not. I'm one those nontraditional low cumulative GPA students with a 4.0 last 60 GPA and anticipated high gre (I take it August 14th, scored a 326 on power prep 1 yesterday..fingers crossed!).

I have no idea about other schools but at my school we had to take CPR our second semester and then the start of 3rd year before we went on our final rotations. I personally don't see how having it before will give you any advantage.. but that is just my opinion. Once you are in PT school you will have to get the healthcare providers one.
