I know a lot of DO schools heavily emphasize primary care, and I know that it is POSSIBLE to go into almost any specialty from almost any school. But what schools have really good rotations, a lot of 3rd and 4th year electives, and emphasis on specializing?

Look at match lists and associated residencies and hospitals. Ask students if they rotate through hospitals with residents. Most older schools have better rotations and more surgical programs. State schools also. Avoid schools created in the last 20 years and in more rural areas. They tend to be more primary care focused.

PCOM, Philly and Suwannee. Nova, as well. MSU-COM an KCU...most which are well established.

PCOM, AZCOM, KCUMB, RVU (a lot of military surgery, but still surgery), DMU, NOVA, it seems like AT-KCOM usually has a decent amount of surgical matches. There are others. I mean two years ago AT-SOMA had an ACGME neurosurgery and ACGME optho in the same year, so you can pretty much do anything from anywhere if you work hard and are smart about how you network. A good rule of thumb is the schools that have good clinical rotations at places that are WARD based and have GME.
