Which DO Schools Have Streaming Lectures?

I think it would be nice to at least have the option to watch lectures at 1.5x speed instead of being mandated to go to class (especially if going to class isn't an efficient method for me). Which schools have streaming lectures?

I know PCOM-GA, MU-COM, CCOM and LMU-DCOM have them. Not sure of the others though.

Better question would be which do NOT? It'll be a shorter list. KCOM, SOMA, and KCUMB do. Here at KCOM you can also watch the video in which you see whatever is displayed on the screen(so you know which slide they're on and what they circle or point to)

ATSU-SOMA does, but it's strongly encouraged that you go to class versus streaming lectures.

I believe they do because they only lecture at one site at a time. Therefore, the other sites look at a recorded lecture. I'm not 100% sure though.

according to the page, azcom started this spring and all classes will next year. ccom has no plans to apparently

OU-HCOM does any their lectures are not mandatory

Most lectures are recorded and are not mandatory, but they are definitely not streamed. There are a few professors that do not give permission to record their lectures, so if you want to watch them read off the PPTs you have to attend lecture. I commute to campus and am required to show up for OMM lab (wed), case based learning (thurs), and an integration session held on most fridays.

Yes, Rowan records lectures and you can view them at another time unless otherwise stated by the professor. Certain classes once or twice a semester won't have the recording available to encourage everyone to come to class for a group case study. Otherwise all the lectures are recorded.

Nycom records everything and classes are not mandatory (no attendance taken).

COMP everything is streamed and you only need to attend labs/small groups. If you are really gun-ho you can even get ahead and watch last years lectures(they are saved). Personally I cannot imagine being forced to go to lectures ever again. I have gotten so use to listening at 2.1x I can't even focus in a normal lecture.

All the lectures in Touro NY are pre-recorded, and from my understanding their classes are actually just one hour clicker sessions help the students apply what they learn through lectures to clinical aspects and get ready for exams and boards

This stuff is what perpetuate the lower standards of DOs vs MDs. If we are paying 50k a year, at least don't treat us like babies. It's the most inconvenient and insulting thing you could do.

I think it has to do with the kids on the lower end of the grade spectrum. If you lower expectations then they get a bit lazy.

On top of that if you get everyone sitting at home in their pajammas watching lectures then you've pretty much turned into an online medical school. Doesn't sound very good.

I haven't been to lecture in a while since I study on my own but I do understand why the administration wants at least 1/2 the class to be there.

Why waste such a nice newly renovated lecture hall.

To elaborate, they are graded (total 10% of your grade) essentially making them mandatory attendance. Although videos are watched on your own time, you will be in class for hours 4-8hrs, 3-4 days of the week with exams every Monday.

This is a sweeping generalization, but given the academic history of the average DO student versus a student at top MD school with no attendance and P/F curriculum, admin may believe the structured class time is necessary. Much of my class needs a **** ton of coddling and many wouldn't be successful without the structure, constant reinforcing, reviews, and hand-holding. This isn't necessarily what I think, but just a theory I have. It would explain the major differences in grading and attendance between most MD and DO schools.

My school is not P/F, CU is. I can tell you for a fact that CU students are far less stressed than RVU students. They have 3-4 hours to take a test that they can take anywhere on campus (~2-3min/question), we have 75sec/question. They have tons of break time, we have very little... I have also wondered if the P/HP/F system lends itself to have lower stress than grades, I am sure it does... I can't comment on hand holding at CU, that definitely does not happen at RVU.

I don't know. Time wasn't on my side so retaking and doing MD wasn't an option, I made it through, but holy crap... That's why I laugh when people say DO school is 'easier'... uhhuhh... more classes, more time, more stress and supposedly it's easier... ummm okayyyyy

It's a personal thing I suppose.

Unfortunately it tends to add a lot more stress for many people. There is a reason more and more schools are trying to use the P/HP/Honors system.

Not sure who you met but I work at an MD school and also have a plethora of friends/ family that attend/ have attended an MD school and this is not even remotely true (all different schools as well). It is extremely competitive and it is cutthroat.

I guess we know different types of people... how strange.

PCOM does have recorded (not streaming) lectures, but there are also many mandatory lectures, especially second year... you pretty much need to go to campus every day for mandatory things, sometimes on weekends for mandatory shadowing and patient interviews.

VCOM has VCOM-TV and it's essentially the same thing.

I tried looking for a sample class schedule but I couldn't find it anywhere. Do you mind mentioning a sample week for example? What do you do in class after having watched the lectures beforehand? I'm awake of the "clicker sessions," but what else goes on in class 4-8 hours a day for 3-4 days a week. Any info would be appreciated, just trying to get a feel of what to expect. If there's a post that mentions this, please direct me to it if you can, I couldn't find specifics!
