Hey well i just graduated college this year and have already submitted my primary AACOMAS application. Wating to get verified. I am a New York Resident with a 3.82 GPA. I still dont know my AACOMAS gpa's because you must be verified. Well i really don't mind applying to all 36 or whatever amount of schools there are. But, why waste the money if I know a school will not accept me based on where I come from etc (ex OOS applicant). I am taking my mcat soon and hoping to get a decent score.

Yea so back to my question. What schools do you think would be a waste for a NY resident to apply to?

What are you getting on your practice MCAT?

Also, can't really tell you which schools to apply unless you take the MCAT. Based on your GPA any school would take you though, assuming you don't do so terribly on your MCAT.

I would aim for at least a 504-505 with that GPA of yours. That would guarantee an acceptance from a DO.

This question is really a **** question to be honest. You have no idea where you stand until you see your mcat score. If you bomb it, you won't have many options. If you do well, you could easily get into an MD school. Wait until mcat scores come back and then check to see where you stand.

Isn't there a school called LEECOMS that doesn't need an MCAT?

1) There is a school called LECOM.

2) It does require an MCAT score, like all other DO schools.

Let me make you my top 5 list of where not to go:

LUCOM
LUCOM
LUCOM
LUCOM
LUCOM
Why?... Do you even go there?

Anyways, OP I think you should try to find the data that shows how many people get in as OOS if you go to a OOS. I know lots of private schools are open to OOS coming in except for schools like PNWU, which favors in-state students b/c of the funding they get.

If you score well on your MCAT, I would just focus on eliminating schools based on regions you don't want to live, costs, and mission statements that don't fit yours. Since none of us know you personally, we can't really determine which ones you shouldn't include.

The OP is asking a good question.

Schools with a regional bias that are unlike to accept you would be:
TCOM
OHUCOM
OK-SOM
MSUCOM
CUSOM (so I hear)
PCOM-GA (so I hear)
PacNW (maybe...someone reported that 25% of their Class is from outside the PacNW region).

I can't recommend LUCOM. Do a search why.

At least this year, LECOM does not require MCAT scores according to the 2016 CIB.

2016
What? No.
From their website:

Candidates must submit their most recent Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) scores. MCAT scores taken within the past three years are acceptable. Competitive candidates typically have a minimum MCAT score of 24.

I did the same research just now on the LECOM website, to investigate this bizarre claim! The only thing I can possibly think is that the line in the CIB that seems to indicate the MCAT is not necessary, is actually referring to a policy regarding LECOM's early acceptance program (as it would make sense for a high schooler's ACT/SAT score to be considered), but I don't actually know enough about how those programs work to be certain that is the case. Anyway, I highly doubt they are doing away with the MCAT as a requirement for the average applicant - and even if they were, it would be pretty silly not to take it as it would preclude an applicant from applying to literally every other school in the country...

I'm pretty sure what it says in the CIB just means that you can receive a supplemental application before having an MCAT score (if you are taking the MCAT after submitting your primaries)...not that they don't require an MCAT for matriculation, b/c that is just silly.

Ooooh!
I guarantee it is for their early acceptance program. Makes perfect sense.
