Hi I have a resonable high Science GPA but my overall is like a 3.0 I was wondering if you thave a high science GPA but a low overall GPA, would it matter! Also, would they take the major into consideration too or not! I am a chemistry major with a premedicine concentration. I messed up the first two years of my college years and didnt know what to do but now I regret it that I should've payed more attention instead of slacking off.
Another question I had, what should be a good score on DAT to get in, if my overall GPA is a little over 3.0 and science is like 3.4?

Science is generally considered more important by Adcoms...they term it to be more of a reflection of what you can do in dental school. And they should consider trends. (for example: my little bro, a 1st year MD student, jacked up his freshman year of undergrad, but did very well his last three to get his sgpa to a respectable point, as yours is. This showed a positive trend that his gpa was rising each semester, and the adcom had no concerns at all.)

I'd say a 3.4 science isn't really "reasonably high," though (no offense meant)...but it is competetive if you apply wisely. Thus, what DAT score you need to be competetive depends on where you want to go to dental school...as an out-of-state applicant I'd aim for a 24-ish to be considered for an interview at most state schools (aim high, obviously). Generally you could do a little "less well" (sounds more optomistic than "worse") than that for your own state school(s). Private programs can be a whole different animal. Good luck. 🙂

I know Ohio State switched this year to include the overall more than just the science GPA......although science is still important

My science GPA is slightly higher than my overall but in every interview when the people were looking over my stuff, they always gave me my overall GPA number. I thought that was interesting.
