Which GPR/AEGD are heavy in ortho?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I haven't heard of any. They're either hospital-based or community clinic based, neither of which are patient populations geared towards ortho. I interviewed at some with associated ortho residencies that advertise that you can "do it on your elective time with an ortho resident" but there's no way they'd let you have your own cases since ortho cases usually take 2-3 years. You MIGHT get to bend some wires...

I don't believe there are many GPR or AEGDs heavy in ortho, especially GPRs as they are usually geared towards more hospital-based dentistry. I've found they mostly give experience in doing more in-depth molar endo, dent-alveo OS, or implants, but not as much ortho.

Maybe one question you may able to ask is does the program also have an OMFS residency and/or do they do orthognathic cases.. that would likely require an ortho side of treatment.

Have you considered an ortho fellowship at a program with an ortho residency? Usually those carry more weight if you really are gearing towards ortho. Downside though is most are "pay" rather than "paid". Used to have limited options for fellowships, now there are many programs that have fellowships, just have to evaluate if they are worth it or not.

An AEGD or GPR "heavy" in ortho is called an orthodontic fellowship. If you actually want to work on ortho patients during your fellowship, not just do research or read research, then the only one I'm aware of is the one at JU. Good luck.
