So, I currently have too many interviews after applying to a big range (30+ programs).

I'm definitely keeping some at the top, which I'm comfortable doing and my home school. But with some of the mid-tier ones, I'm having a lot of trouble deciding which ones to cancel. So, I was hoping for some help/advice.

Deal is I need to cancel 7 of these following programs. Which ones would you cancel or keep? I plan to subspecialize, would like a friendly program, research opportunities... and no real ties to geography.

Here's the list (need to cancel 7 of these 10):
1. Case Western/Rainbow Babies
2. UNC
3. Duke
4. Vanderbilt
5. Mount Sinai Program
6. University of Chicago Program
7. Washington University/SLCH
8. University of Michigan
9. Albert Einstein College of Med (Montefiore)
10. Albert Einstein College of Med (Jacobi)

Either tell me which three to keep or which seven to cancel. I know it's subjective, but want to get some insight. Feel free to give a reason for the programs if you want.

Thanks and hopefully this will free up some spots for 7 other people.

The only one that I would definitely drop is Jacobi because it's on a different level. As for the rest, it depends on what you're looking for. Is there a specific part of the country that you want to end up in? Do you prefer a big city or a smaller city? Do you prefer a stand-alone children's hospital? The answers to those questions will help narrow down your list

I can't give you unbiased advice, but I do want to thank you for canceling early as I am personally still holding out for a couple programs on your list 🙂 Thanks!

1. Ok, so how about what is the best program between UNC vs. Duke vs. Vanderbilt?

2. I'm leaning not to interview at Case because I feel like the responses on here have been lukewarm about its reputation. Do you agree?

I think the best advice has already been given. Take a closer look at the programs - what kind of research can they offer you, the size of the resident class of each program (do you want to work with just a few other residents or with a large group), number of residents that specialize vs primary care, what fellowships does the hospital offer, what is their board pass rate, and most importantly I would say is their location. At this point deciding between the programs you have is splitting hairs. Have you ever been to Durham? I can safely say being from North Carolina I would rather live in Chapel Hill than Durham any day but that's just my opinion. Do some research and go with your gut.
