I am having a really hard time deciding between two interviews that fall on the same day. One is at a program in my state. It is close to home, its a solid program, and I was very excited to get an offer to interview there. The other interview is at a top five program. If I cannot get a date change on the interview, I am tempted to decline the offer from the better program. Am I crazy? Am I short changing myself? Honestly, I am flattered to have received the interview, but I am not disillusioned enough to think that I would actually match there. Any thoughts?

I would evaluate your priorities, what's important to you and how well you like a program for what it has to offer not because of it theoretical ranking.... Say you have the opportunity to interview at both - decide how you would rank them on you match list. Then ii you has to choose - pick the one you would rank higher .... Obviously its all hypothetical at this stage, you may end up loving a program you may have otherwise thought not possible.
Research the program and evaluate based on your priorities.

Find out if there is any flexibility from either program regarding an interview date. Express your sincere interest in both programs, and that you want to make the right decision. It is still relatively early in the "dance card season", so one may be willing to give you another date.

I agree with lucyz02, if you MUST choose between the two, choose the better of the two programs for the interview. Don't sell yourself short. It is your career, make the most of the opportunities that are extended to you!

Agree with above posts - once you get an interview, you foot is in the door and you are considered a competitive candidate for the program. Most programs will interview 5-10 applicants per spot so the fact that you got an interview is a good sign. Definitely try to get another date so you can interview at both places. It's still early in the interview season - there should be more dates left.
