I have already participated in research, shadowed for 200+ hours, and volunteered at underserved clinics during college. For my gap year I am already accepted to an unpaid internship at a physical therapy clinic for 20 hrs a week during fall 2014. The PT clinic is also in the same city as the underserved clinics so I could continue my volunteering there! However, my friend suggested I earn an EMT license and work for about 6 months until I *hopefully* start medical school so that I can get paid as well. I was wondering if anyone could give me insight as to which would be a better idea? I'm leaning towards PT internship because I'll be able to get patient contact and it interests me....the hours are also from 9am-1pm which I like

Just my two cents, as an EMT for a while, you're gonna want to be an EMT if you actually love doing it. It can be tiring work and some patients are less than rays of sunshine. If you like PT, do PT. The med schools will likely not care a significant amount.

i would do the PT and get some non-clinical volunteering in. and a part time job that will pay you so you can save up for your apps, interviews, etc
