UPENN's -- philly cost of living is much less
something to thnk about

I'm not in the running for either of those schools so I don't know too much about them. But I def think that is something to consider! A much nicer place for less $$

Whoa ... I dont know if I would consider Philly a much nicer place than Boston or anywhere else for that matter

Cost of living is significantly cheaper in Philly.

What does your pros/cons list include?

Upenn-has good clinical exposure; selective program; a lot of community service opportunities; advanced simulation labs; seniors did not feel prepared

Tufts- strong didactics; the medicine course is the best; like the classroom; the seniors felt prepared; focuses on practice management; might have patient and chair problems

I never said the city was nicer. I just said you could get a better spot for YOURSELF to live in for a better price. It's a big difference in price / quality of your residence. Places in boston tend to be old, uncarpeted, smaller ... for ridic prices. Philly.. you have lots of options and nice places to pick from if you do your searching correctly.

On a student budget, Boston just seems absurd to some extent $$wise

Also. do you want a car? don't live in boston. Parking is ridiculous and expensive.

These are simple little things to consider outside of the program. If you like both programs equally these types of things might help you make a decision.

What is the total cost of both schools? (including living, transportation, etc). I really think you will be prepared wherever you go (as long as you do what you're supposed to). $$ should be a big factor, unless you're not paying! I have also heard a few negative things about preparedness of students from UPENN, maybe look into this, talk to some tstudents, etc.

Try posting on the dental forum?

First off, you DON'T NEED a car in Boston, their transportation system is wonderful and everything is close to the school. Second, you have no idea what you're talking about Dentgirl09 with regards to the state of apartments in Boston. Rent is around $1200 (NOT RIDIC compared to SF and NYC) and it usually comes with hardwood/renovated kitchen/nice bathroom. The only thing you give up on is SPACE (most rooms will be 500 ft sq). Please, do some research before posting CRAP.

Also, I, like most of my fellow classmates at Tufts will be selling our cars. No more car insurance, no more gas, no more driving! Plus that's 16k extra for me to upgrade my "old, uncarpeted, smaller" apartment 🙄
