Clean shaven. TBH, most of the interviewees looked pretty young to begin with.

Always better to shave

There are plenty of threads about this exact subject, but I'll be brief with my input. I haven't been clean shaven since 2012, and that was just because I was required to be for my job. I had a neatly trimmed beard during interviews and no one said anything about it and I got accepted. Neatly trimmed beards are plenty professional if you ask me. This isn't Mad Men.
Some people will say clean shaven because an adcom could theoretically hold it against you and you don't want to give them any reasons to not like you. To that I would say they may as well judge you by the way you blink.
Also, I'm much, much more comfortable with my beard, and I have no problem not looking the same age as other applicants. Because I have no problem being older than most other applicants.

I decided to grow my beard for my interviews as I look very young clean shaven and didn't want to give off any immaturity. In my case I decided having a beard would be advantageous and present me in a better light.

Youre a man. If you can grow a real beard and keep it nice and clean, rock it. If you dont get in because the adcom didnt like your perfectly trimmed beard, a completely natural feature of being a man that probably 9 out of 10 physicians had until 1940, they dont deserve you. Andrew taylor still had a beard.
If its still in the patchy phase I wouldn't risk it.
In all fairness, if one were to say "beard" without qualifying it, I would assume it's luscious and full.
Well groomed beard is fine.

Do you have a thick, even, luscious, tasteful, and well-groomed beard?
My best judgement says that's fine.
But I have had adcoms advise me that even if I had a great, tasteful, well groomed beard, I should shave anyway. This was just 2 people at one school though.

They must have been gentiles. Good thing you chose a kosher residency program...no self-respecting person boarded in Jewish dermatology would be caught dead with a shaven visage.
Please keep the conversation civil and professional. Thanks. They must have been gentiles. Good thing you chose a kosher residency program...no self-respecting person boarded in Jewish dermatology would be caught dead with a shaven visage.

As a man that always keeps a beard, you better shave. I agree that a clean cut beard can look very professional, but no one ever looks down on clean shaven. Who knows who is interviewing you. Why run the risk?
Every interview I've ever done (for jobs and med) I have had a well-groomed beard. We're all adults. People wear beards.

A bit off topic, but I'm thoroughly satisfied with the fact that hypepillarman is now banned. Until the next troll account inevitably opens up...
