I take it that you turned down offers to other dental schools?
No! I applied for 9 schools last year, and I only got 2 interviews, one from UCLA and one from UCSF. They both waitlisted me.
Here are some of the reasons I think I didn't get accepted last year:
1-Took my DAT exam on July 27th, which is not too later, but it's not early either.
2-I'm a transfer student, and when I was applying I didn't have enough units completed at UCLA.
3-2/4 of my LORs were written by my CC professors rather than my UCLA professors.
4-I made a mistake of applying to schools in Texas and Washington, not knowing that they take very few out of state applicants.
5-And finally, aside from the fact that my DAT scores were about average, I had a low RC score of 18. I've heard the RC score is one of the most important scores the admission officers look at.
I've addressed all the above problems this year. I have higher DAT scores, I've also completed few more upper division classes at UCLA, I've submitted updated LORs, and finally I've applied to more schools this year.
I'm hoping I can get into UCLA.
