What looks better to adcoms: a ~3.5 with A's and B's scattered here and there or a ~3.5 with a REALLY bad year (read: all Cs or under) and then straight A's after that? I hear so much of this "they love upward trend" stuff but...really?

EDIT: maybe it should be..which looks WORSE?

I dont think C's are ever good.I think the upward trend they talk about is Some B's freshmen year, less B's sophomore year, no B's junior year, straight C's senior year because you were already accepted.

Well yeah if you could choose whether to get B's or C's, I'd choose the B's.🙂 But what I'm saying is does a bad year count you out of the race if you made up for it? Or is it better to have mediocre performance straight through if it results in the same GPA?

Best just to do well, but I have to say that medical schools do appreciate if the C's occur in the first semseter and then get A's from then on...they will attribute it to adjustment to college...so I think it is fine either way...may even be better if only the first semester is weak and then all the rest very strong

Yay😀

I just don't want my stupid extended senioritis from HS to ruin all my chances. My dream was an MD/Ph.D and I've heard that stellar research and a good MCAT can sometimes overshadow some discrepancies in the transcript, which is what I'm hoping for. Totally just keeping my fingers crossed and saying my prayers every night 🙂
