i've got a bit of a confusing question.

on many of my secondaries, i see that the schools have you type in your recommenders name and title, etc and they typically only leave you space for 3 letters with no indication on the website that you can submit more.

i have more than 3 recommendations. would you guys recommend sending all of them in but listing only three (and possibly pissing off the adcom), or choosing 3 i think would be the strongest. if so, which 3?!

anyone else in the same boat? how to decide??

In the prompts, put the names of the 3 recommenders that fulfill their requirements. For example, if they require 2 science and 1 non-science profs, then put in their names. If there's no indication as to what people to put in, then I would put the names of profs that wrote letters, since these are generally most important.

Overall, I wouldn't worry about it. Med schools understand that the number of LORs you send them is somewhat out your control. A lot of applicants are forced to send the same number of letters since many use a letter filing service that sends the same letter packet to each school. Since other schools require more than 3, adcoms won't penalize you for sending more. The worst that can happen is that the adcom won't read any beyond 3. You only run into trouble if you have less than the requirements, not more.

I was in the same boat.

I had 2 science profs, 1 non-science prof, 2 preceptorship docs, and 1 volunteer service coordinator.

I called each AdCom separately to ask if the others were allowable. Some said they would add them to my file as "extra letters". Others said they would throw them in the trash. At that point, you meet their reqs first then send in your best recommender. Best of luck!!!!
