I'm going to start a prelim year in medicine and then do neurology. I'm wondering which of my med school books, if any, would be useful to have around as references "just in case" during residency. I've sold most of them already but have kept a few classics...

Examples of ones I still have: Big Moore and Little Moore, Netter, Bates' Guide to Physical Exam, Dubin's EKG book, and multiple others that I'm trying to get rid of but seem to be too old to sell! Those are the main ones, though. Any thoughts?

I was never very strong at anatomy, so I thought maybe hanging on to one of those might be good, but then again, am I actually going to look something up in it when there's the internet, etc?

Thanks!

Should I ask in the internal medicine forum instead? Someone must have an opinion...

Only keep books which you use often, at home and will read.

As you noted, you will mostly look stuff up at work in the library or on the internet. Its nice to have a good textbook to read during residency, so whatever your home program uses would be worthwhile to have. I tend to keep books though, so I see little need to get rid of them as I have lot of bookcases to fill.

bates- talk about a useless book taking up space on my bookshelf. the only reason i've kept mine is because it was my dad's from when he was a med student.

Just keep the books that are balancing your furniture legs.

To put it another way, how many of your undergrad books did you keep (and use) in med school?

Yeah, it's like that.

Thanks! OK, so most of them are going the way of...whichever 1st year med student I can find who will pay me anything!

Man, I'm getting ready to sell them...but flipping through it, Moore's Clinical Anatomy (big Moore) seems like maybe it would be good to have around...although I've never read it (not even during first year!). So heavy, though, and I know most of the stuff I was reading...I'm such a closet hoarder, though, which is how my apartment got this messy in the first place!
