Hello, Soon I will have microbiology and immunology at my university.

What sources do you recommend? My school recommends us to read Murray's Medical Microbiology.

Are there any good review books for microbiology and immunology out there? (Last semester we had physiology and I LOVED Costanzo's BRS-book)

Thanks a lot guys 🙂

Clinical Microbio Made Ridiculously Simple

Sketchy Micro (though not a book and not really for first time learning)

How the Immune System Works by Lauren Sompayrac

What about microcards? (or other resources?)

Thanks guys. Any advice is appreciated

How the Immune System Works (preread!)
Lippincott's Immunology (some small errors so be prepared to make corrections)
Clinical Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple (a MUST have if you learn well by reading high-yield snippets)

I never used Sketchy Micro but my classmates have nothing but good things to say

I'd say it depends on your learning style, but I thought Microcards was too detailed and I don't really like learning from flash cards (though reviewing is fine). But some really like Microcards. To each their own.

Check out the recommended resources at the back of the latest edition of First Aid for other suggestions. I believe Deja Review Micro is likewise often recommended but I've never used it so no idea how good it is.

I picked the brains of my Micro and Immuno colleagues and they recommended:

Murray's Medical Microbiology.
Micro and Infectious Diseases On the Move
Clinical Microbio Made Ridiculously Simple

Parham's The Immune System
Immunology Lecture Notes

Clinical microbiology made ridiculously simple!

Best book ever.

I really liked Basic Immunology by Abbas (not the full textbook) in conjunction with How the Immune System Works. I used HISW initially, then filled in the gaps and details with Abbas. My only regret is that I didn't discover Basic Immunology earlier.

And I'll second the CMMRS + SketchyMicro suggestion.

Janeway for Immuno is really good if you read fast.

A quick plug for my own favorite, Levinson's Review of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, which has a great and very concise 75-page immuno section at the end. The micro sections are longer, but they were at just the right level of detail for our course, with lots of helpful figures and tables. Admittedly it's not as fun as CMMRS or Sketchy, but I found it really useful. FA also has a lot of goofy but worthwhile micro mnemonics, so it's worth glancing at from time to time during the year.
