Does anyone have past experiences remediating microbiology, immunology and parasitology over the summer? What would I expect at a remediation course. Is it easier, harder?

At my school, LSUHSC-New Orleans, these three subjects are taught as one single subject over the course of one semester. I had failed this course and was wondering if any other schools have a similar course like this and where the remediation would be.

If you have problems with microbiology, you probably have difficulty memorizing random facts, which is not an uncommon problem. I would not depend on the class to "teach" you much -- I would instead figure out how you best learn/memorize random material and apply that to learning microbiology. In short, develop a better study strategy. People who have "difficulty memorizing," need to look at the big picture first, before integrating the details. Another helpful approach is to do as many multiple choice questions as you can get your hands on -- this too will help you pay attention to the important details and differences between bugs.

People who have problems with immunology generally have the opposite problem. They would prefer to memorize micro facts rather than apply the concepts necessary in immunology. These students need to memorize all of the facts first, and then spend time connecting the dots to come up with general concepts that they can then apply.

Remember to teach yourself. Good luck! :xf:
