Please need help.......advice....

Hello everyone! I need your suggestion/help/advice.
I failed my first Naplex try Missed by four points.
Now I'll be able to take it again at the end of October.... The problem is , I m still not 100% prepared to retake my Naplex at the end of October, so initially I was thinking, I may take it in November. So I will have enough time. But now since new Naplex competency statement and revised score will be in effect in the beginning of November, I m scared to take it in November.......

Just little background,

I was an average student in pharmacy school, had a very easy rotation except 1 or 2, prepared about for 20 days for last Naplex seriously ( just prepared for DM, HTn, psychi, lungs, heart, gout, RA.....etc and calculation. And during exam was not able to recall everything from the things I prepared) , really good in math.
Passed my MPJE after my first Naplex attempt. So far I have tried to read chapters from Rxprep, the once I didn't read first time ( still have not read HIV or Onco even once) I have almost 25 days left till the end of October. Hoping to prepare for rest , and hoping that it will take less time this time because I have read at least once except HIV and Onco.

What should I do? Should I retake my Naplex at end of this month as soon as I m eligible to take it?
Or is it okay to stretch in November, so I will have some extra days to prepare?

Please I need your help desperately....... I do not want to fail this time

If i were you I would study a LOT and take it comfortably in november. I studied almost 3 months for it and tried my 1,000 percent best. I just took it yesterday so I dont know if Ive passed.... But I have no regrets because Ive tried the hardest. I studied Rx Prep book inside out. You will not pass if you pick out "major chapters" and only study those......the test is so random that you need to study.

How long have you been studying for? If its been since your last attempt and you feel youve literally tried your best then go for it in octover

If you feel the need to wait until November, do so. However, there are a lot of unknowns with the new exam. Pass rates are always lower the first year of a new exam. Also, the exam will be longer. I studied on and off for about 6 weeks or so. In Wisconsin, you have to wait 30 days from application date to being able to take NAPLEX and MPJE.

Will score report be pass/fail or it still will be 75 percentile to 150 percentile starting from November? Also will NAPLEX have 185 questions or 250 questions?

NABP didn't specify if there will be changes to the passing standards in November but did mention that the score reports will possibly be pass/fail sometime in 2016 (didn't specify the exact date). Therefore, I would assume you will still need a 75 to pass. Questions will still be 185. The 250 question test will probably be effective in 2016 (maybe Jan 1?). The only changes to the november test will be the updated competency statements.

Why NABP confused so much by not giving exact information on their website. They just mentioned that they are moving a new model of Naplex in 2016 from 185 to 250 questions. They did not mention the exact date. It is confusing for students planning to take Naplex in January , February 2016. NABP should be more precise and accurate.

Thanks everyone for your response.

I have been studying since last 4-5 weeks on and off. The problem is even if I do not take at the end of October. I have to take in November during first 7-10 days. It's not that I will have another one month to prepare.....

I am just thinking that for October exam, I do have some idea that what kind of questions I should expect. But starting from November.....don't know how different it will be......

Yes from my job they asked me to retake it as soon as possible ( the earliest available date). So I am thinking may be I can stretch may be another 7-10 days , once I m eligible to take.....

Also let me know how did you do on your Naplex?? What are the most topics you had in your exam??

Hmmm..:I see. It is a lot of pressure when the job is asking you to take it within a certain timeframe. I would really consider if you are ready because when you think back after you take the test you should ask yourself did I try my very best? If the answer is no then you will possibly regret taking it.

i took mine friday and let me tell you it was RANDOM. It was difficukt but I felt I prepared a lot. No regrets looking back! I can only pray Ive passed! Its my first attempt and there have been many family issues during my study period so I took some time off and then restarted studying. I didnt just want to take it but really try 1000 percent.

I will keep you updated, will find out hoepfully tuesday maybe wednesday 🙂

Also, by 2017/18 there will be a new section on the Naplex. The new section will be on communication skills. The score you receive is a scaled score not a percentile. The new blueprint is on the website but it is vague.

Yes, that's true. I double checked the blueprint. They have mentioned about change in competency statement starting from November 1st, but they didn't mention anything about change in passing/scoring standards. So I m assuming it's still gone be the same.

I also think so because in NABP news they just mentioned that from 1st November new competency will be implemented. And in 2016, they will make progressive transition from 185 questions to 250 questions not mentioning even the month and date just year. So what does mean progressive transition ?

Hello, I strongly suggest you buy the
rxprep bank questions! I studied that the last week before my exam and took the pre-naplex as well. Like everyone else said, it was random and I had a lot of check all that apply questions.

The rxprep questions online tremendously helped. I scored a 113, studying seriously for about three weeks. But it may be different for everyone because I feel that my way of studying is having people quiz me or have questions asked.

Hello everyone,

Can anyone please advice me that how to prepare for brand-generic for exam? What I have understood from my previous NAPLEX experience is that in the exam they really don't ask for brand to generic questions a lot!! I just had two..... Is that common for everybody or it was just me? I understood that I can use brand- generic knowledge while answering questions based on charts ( to identify each drug in pt's medication list) not really questions based on itself......

Also I spent almost whole day to prepare for brand-generic during last exam.....I do not west my whole day like that especially when I don't have much time left.....

Hello newway,

Just curios to know, how did you do on your Naplex? I m sure you passed.... What is your score?

There is a new study guide coming up sooner end of September 2016 than the others on the market. It's called 2017 NAPLEX Questions. http://www.rxpharmacist.com/product/2017-naplex-practice-questions/. Heard pretty good things and they spent much time on it to ensure it reflects 2017 material and the questions are supposed to be very similar to the actual NAPLEX questions
