Hey guys, I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I have a limit of 8 colleges to apply to but my list currently has 9 (all chosen from the Factors when Choosing a School megadoc because I swear this chart makes all vet schools look amazing!). I'm wondering if anyone has any insight to which school I should axe from my app?

Schools I'm definitely applying too- Cornell (IS), Tufts
Other schools that I can potentially axe- Colorado State, Michigan State, Illinois, Missouri, UW Madison, UC Davis, Washington State
You can also find my stats on my WAMC page here

Considerations-
- I am most likely going to be a small animal vet but would like there to have strong wildlife/exotic animal programs/opportunities (especially raptors) in the very small chance that I may be able to specialize in those in the future (this is probably not gonna be useful since I chose these colleges precisely for this reason 😕)
- Lots of hands-on activities and experience-building that I can start right from 1st year
- Great club and extracurricular activities
- I would like a campus that is not too stuffy (fairly liberal, no formal clothing policy, that kind of jazz)
- Also greens on campus! trees, grass, beautiful scenery, forested areas nearby etc where I can hike, camp, escape to nature. Also nowhere too sketchy
- If there is also a metropolis city I could escape to once in a blue moon that would also be a plus but it's not a requirement at all (something akin to Cornell/NYC)
- Is UC Davis too much of a reach for my stats? Because if so I might just axe that and keep the rest
- Happy to provide more info if needed

I picked these schools because they seem to match my criteria above so if anyone has any insight, or maybe if I missed something or were fed misinformation about a particular school, please let me know. I know that the schools I decide to apply to is ultimately my decision but I would like to make the most informed decision possible. Thank you!

UC Davis has a very high OOS average GPA:
  • 2023: Non-Residents (includes international) – Overall Science (3.94), Last 45 Sem/68 Qtr Units (3.96) - Look here to compare your stats: Source
  • 2024: Non-Residents (includes international) – Overall Science (3.96), Last 45 Sem/68 Qtr Units (3.97)- Source
  • Your GPAs from WAMCs:
    • Cumulative GPA: ~3.60
    • Science GPA: ~3.48
    • last 45: ~3.63
It may not be worth applying to UC Davis since the first portion of the admissions process is ranking applicants based on GRE and GPA and then inviting those individuals for an interview (top 10% of OOS applicants). The school outlines its admissions process here.

Hope this helps!

Mizzou has a lecture dress policy.
Personally I would keep Mizzou though cause of tuition switching.
UC Davis& WA are fairly competitive so depends on your stats but tuition switching also. UC Davis see above post on their admission process.
UW&CO are both fairly expensive with CO being super competitive OOS imo wouldn't waste my time for their price.
Overall your stats are competitive so I'd encourage you to apply to the schools that allow tuition switching.

UW-Madison definitely checks all of those boxes. I know of one student who moved here and worked for a year to get considered IS for application & tuition purposes and it did work out well for her.

Also--based on what you're describing--Tufts is it's own isolated campus. And it's about an hour outside of Boston so if you're looking for lots of social opportunities that aren't necessarily vet med related, you may find them lacking.

I am also looking for veterinary school and I found the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State and decide for joining. Is my decision right?

I'd like to help but I'm not sure I understand your question--only you know what your grades look like and what kind of program you want. All of the schools offer quality education, so it really depends on where you want to be geographically, what you want to study in terms of specialty, and what you want your education to cost.
