Hello everyone,

I have a quick question and I'm not sure if there's a right or wrong answer. However, which of these two would you recommend:
  • Take less upper-division science courses but have more time for extracurriculars
  • Take more upper-division science courses but have less time for extracurriculars

If you have a mediocre BCPM GPA, getting As in upper-division Bio and Biochem is a good way to reassure adcomms that you have what it takes to succeed in med school and to boost that number. If your ECs are mediocre and your numbers are great, then put the time into ECs.

If your science GPA is good, then you could spend some more time on ECs, but if you haven't taken very many upper-division science courses as is, you may need them to help improve your application.

Who do you think an Adcom would favor?

The student who took less upper-division science courses but did more time for extracurriculars
The student who took more upper-division science courses but did less extracurricularsThe student who took more upper-division science courses AND also found time to do extracurriculars

Good time mgt skills are crucial to success in medical school
Balance is everything.
