Hi,

I needed some help in purchasing a book for my EM rotation. I can't get any up to date information on which one would be better for student electives and possibly beyond for residency.

Can you help me decide?

1) Tintinalli EM pocket book

2) Pocket Emergency Medicine

Please give any opinions you have on these (good or bad)

Thank you

I love pocket emergency medicine. For a medical student it is the ideal companion. It separates things by chief complaints, gives you a DDX. Things to include in you H and P. List ED interventions and studies to obtain. Gives you lab values and everything else to reach your final Dx. Even gives clinical pearls which, as an attending, definitly can impress when you give you presentation to an upper level. It is the true how to guide for EM. I actually have it in my bag I take to work every night.👍

There was a thread about this not too long ago, if I remember correctly. I don't have a lot of experience with those two books in particular. If you're open to others, however, the number one pocket book I use is Pharmacopeia, followed by the Tarascon EM books as needed.
