Which portals are really necessary to check?

I know, I know—as a neurotic/meticulous premed, I should be obsessively checking all my portals every couple days to make sure I don't miss anything. But in reality, I applied to > 50 programs, so that would be wildly unrealistic, and arguably counterproductive. The portals I have checked without any prompting have produced exactly zero insights into my status. So, what schools are you aware of that send rejections or IIs by portal alone?

P.S. I am indeed neurotic enough to daily check my spam and clutter folders. Still, I’ve only heard from about 1/4 schools at this point.

I actually don't know of any school that sends interview invites by portal alone. I personally think the necessary information (e.g. location of interview, travel information, key attachments etc.) is important enough to be sent by emails.

On the flip side, some schools may apparently update rejections or holds by portal only. But that's another reason to stop checking portals and just wait for email responses.

A couple send II by portal only sometimes. Wayne and OSU come to mind.

My friend said she got a rejection email from OSU recently, so I checked the portal and found no update, just that I haven’t received a II. I will check it more often now. Thank you!

I haven't had any of my MD portals give me significant news without emailing, but on the DO front I found a rejection from logging into Rocky Vista's portal and an II logging into AZCOM's.

Interesting—I got an RVUCOM rejection and an AZCOM II by email. Mind me asking what email domain you use?

If using google chrome, create a folder with all of the portals bookmarked. Right click said folder and press open all bookmarks in a new window. You’re computer will freak out under the combined stress of 50 tabs opening simultaneously and the neuroticism beaming from your hand through the mouse but it allows you to check the portals at least every day at 5pm.

I don’t know you but I love you

You could even avoid the computer freakout by splitting them in half and doing 2 folders.

Some people have had portal changes for Wayne and Drexel that weren't accompanied by an email. If you've set up a Wayne email address, it seems that sometimes communications go there instead of your personal email address.

OHSU appears to update its portal before sending an email according to the thread.
