Hi all

Im a 29 year old male in finance and want to move to Medicine. I considered medicine while in college but chose finance and made the wrong decision. I took chemistry, physics, calc and bio 1 in college but this was 5+ years ago.

GPA: 3.5
SGPA: 3.5
SAT: 1520
GRE: 167/167
Varsity athlete
A variety of shadowing, volunteer, and research but none since college.

I am not overly concerned with ranking of med school, and definitely want a linkage program. At my age I just want to get to med school asap. That said, all else equal, I would attend the "better" school.

What would be a good program for me? Would somewhere like Johns Hopkins be an option as I took the pre-reqs so long ago?

Thanks

You may want to actually contact the programs you're interested in and explain your situation and see if you're eligible. I'm assuming you took both Chem 1&2 and Physics 1&2 as well as Bio 1? Generally, one or two courses is ok, but this may be too many. Although you *might* be able to make a case for having taken them a long time ago.

Good luck!

Thanks guys. I have taken chem 1&2, physics 1&2, calc 1&2, bio 1, orgo 1...but all 6-8 years ago.

Does anyone know if Scripps, Goucher, BM, and JHU allow deferment? Ie, could you say you would like to work for another year before you begin?

Thanks

If you haven't applied yet, why don't you just wait and apply next year instead of asking for a deferment? Then you can apply early in the cycle and have a better chance of an acceptance. My understanding is that deferments are granted on a case-by-case basis for extenuating circumstances (e.g. I know of people who got deferments from the mentioned programs due to the sudden death of a family member, getting awarded a Fulbright, or having a baby. So not sure just working would qualify...)

However, since you've already taken almost all of courses, your eligibility is questionable -- you should probably talk to the schools directly...
