i have to agree wieth this one. pre-interview rejections are okay, because you can write the school off as a "numbers *****" and feel better. but with post-interview rejections, you have to come to terms with the fact that:
1) you somehow managed to fall into the bottom 1/3 of applicants they interviewed for that cycle
2) they liked your application enough to interview you. but then they met you and decided that you suck.
That being said, Stonybrook is the only school that rejected me post-interview and I took it pretty hard. Especially since its my own state school. I had to wonder whether it was my interviewer that was the cause. He was on-call the night before so hadn't slept at all. He showed up pale and trembling at my interview. Regardless, I kept the rejection letter under my pillow and re-read it sometimes (obviously, a healthy way to handle things).
The most offensive rejection, however, goes to NYU, who gave me the equivalent of a pre-secondary rejection. The notice I received was via email (didn't even bother to waste a letterhead or a stamp on me), and didn't even have a proper greeting (not even a generic "Dear Applicant". It just started with sentences). That being said, it was a three-sentence-long email stating that NYU has decided not to send me a secondary at this time, but that they will notify me if they change their mind in the future. Did I mention the email had typos in it? I haven't received an official rejection from them, but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't even bother to do that.
