I am interested solely in going to osteopathic school, I have studied physical manipulation for over seven years now. Osteo is a perfect match for me. I am wondering though, why does only 6% of the osteopathic population practice manipulation? Do people not get it, or are they just in osteopathic school because they couldn't get into allopathic? My main question is, which school has the best OMM program? From my own research, I would say that MSU seems to be pretty on top of things, but my goodness, the out of state fees are ridiculous. No way I can afford something like that. Does anyone know which of the other schools REALLY has it figured out? The basic sciences must be pretty equal, but I want to get the best physical medicine training possible. Thanks for the input!!

Our program is very strong, if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Interesting that you would be the first post. I am a Western Kentucky grad. I heard great things about one of the profs there in the manipulation department. I probably could have gotten in for this fall, but wasn't sure about living in Pikeville. Probably silly, huh? Thanks for the reply. If there is anything else you could tell me about the school, including residency sites, I would greatly appreciate it.

KCOM and DMU traditionally score the highest on the OMM section of the COMLEX, so I would consider them to be the best. These two schools also spend a substantial amount of time on the subject.

Most people are going to say that their school is the best for OMM...

What I would try to do is get a hold of some representatives from the UAAO (and NOT student members) and ask them their frank opinion. Also, try to find out where there are OMM fellowships (as in post graduate training, not student fellowships). There is one in Orlando associated with my alma mater, NSUCOM. My friend will be doing it after his internship.

I am one of the 94% who do not use OMM routinely.

Q, DO

DMU is traditionally the strongest school at OMM in the nation. I am not just saying it because we go here either. We do a ton of OMM at this school... a ton.

On this last national boards (step 1 of comlex) DMU rated out 20% higher than the national average...that is huge. 20%. That means while DMU students averaged in the 90's, other schools were in the 70's.

So DMU is tops for now, but there are a few other schools that are very strong as well....like KCOM

um...national boards score average for the medical schools were 87%, and LECOM's was 93%, as the results just came in last week. So I don't see how yours were 20% over the national average...unless you guys got 107% 🙂

Are you referring to the average for the boards as a whole or just the OMM portion of the boards? Because that is what I think texdrake is referring to...Am I right? 😕

I was refering to just the OMM portion. The question pertained to OMM not the overall score. DMU had by far the highest OMM average.

I think OSU is the best, although I can't remember anything we did last year. I heard it was good stuff though!
