Which is better Tufts or Boston University and WHY?

The reason I am asking is because many people seem to be shooting BU down for no apparent reason? For those of you who do not like BU, what's so bad about it?

And for those of you who have been accepted to BU, what is your primary reason for going there?

does it matter what some snot-nosed SDN'er thinks? Apply to the one you want to go to, or apply to both and then check them out and make your own decisions. School is school, and what you make of it, you'll get a DDS/DMD whever you go.

tufts has a wayyy better reputation for their clinical training and the whole school is much more efficient, it also used to be the #1 clinical school a few years back...BU isnt thaaat bad either it's just that the better school in boston is tufts.

I agree totally with you. Both schools are good schools and one is not better than the other. People obviously have their own opinions regarding schools but you shouldn't base where you go to school based on what someone else says. It would be a shame for someone to really like a school but then hear someone on SDN rip it for some reason and this changes their whole perspective.

Nendo21 is right. Tuft's is known for their clinical and supposedly is the best hands down. A friend of mine who is a DMD said that when she was at Tuft's Harvard would refer out people to Tuft's becasue they were more of a research oriented school. I don't know major differences between BU and Tuft's but, they really aren't known for their clinical.

This is straight from the premed advisor. Tufts is more structured and regimented while BU tends to be more flexible and a "bit chaotic".

So far, all of these posts have been from people who do not attend either school (at least for now). I would say check out both, theyre not too far apart so one visit (say during an interview) and you can kill 2 birds with 1 stone. I really liked BU when I was there, but that was just an impression. If you are seriously contemplating these schools, you can find emails of upper class students through the schools websites and just ask them questions. Good luck with the whole process.

Ignore the reputations, they are generally overstated and spouted out by one side or the other in response to criticism over the way they handle things.

Interview at both schools and decide which school you want to attend. Simple as that. You only get what you put in regardless of how "strong" the school may or may not be.

And you might want to run a quick search.. The BU vs. Tufts question has been asked more times on these forums than any one of us could possibly count.

Regards,
Mo.

PS. I'm a Tufts D'05 student about a month and a half away from graduating.

Visiting a school diff makes a difference...schools that I heard negative things about or I thought I wouldn't like proved me wrong during my interviews...I always had a different perspective after my interviews...

BU medical center has serious problems. That alone scared me away from applying there.
