hello everyone,

I got rejected from every school that I applied so far, I am only waiting for one school and It does not look like I will get in to that school too, I am waiting for - answer from that school too. So I want to be ahead of the game for next year to make my chances higher to get in. So with your help Can some of you please tell me which schools to apply for fall 06 with GPA sub 3.0. Where would I have chance of getting an interview and I also need school that will also look at other things then just GPA.
Which schools should I include on my list, I already know the once not to include....lol

so my stats are GPA sub 3.0, pcat 70 and working as a certified tech in a hospital for four years. Please guys give me list and some advice. This whole pharmacy thing is driving me crazy, I see myself falling in more n more depression.
Thank you

Do pharmacy techs make good money? i am thinking about if i should become one by going to a tech school or just soley focusing on my pre reqs and maybe volunteering..I think I will or possbiyl be in your situation with a low gpa..

Sub 3.0 will be hard to get into anywhere. I think you should retake the PCAT. If you raise your score into the 90s percentile, that would look a whole lot better on your application. Consider applying to new schools such as Touro, Wingate, etc...

Every pharmacy school is quite competitive to get into now. My advice would be to just do very good in school and then reapply. GPA could be higher---and so can the PCAT. You do have work experience so that is good. What pharm. schools did you apply to previously??

HICP seems to let in anyone willing to pay, but I can't recommend that you go there. Sorry, but I don't know anywhere that will be easy with a sub 3.0. It is too competitive out there and GPA and PCAT are the easiest ways to cut your application pool down. Good luck.

Thank you for your inputs..
I feel like I will never make it to pharmacy school, the more I try hard its just getting harder and harder to get in, I just give up on it. It breaks my heart to just know that I will never make it to the pharmacy school and on top of that I m getting old. I don't know what to do anymore. I am so lost, all I see is darkness in my life. But thankx guys

Take heart.

The advice that people are giving you is true: It is getting more and more difficult to get in.

But it is definately not parallel to the effort that you can put out to improve your own competitiviness.

Great suggestions are retaking the PCAT (and putting some really good time into study, average 3 hours a day for at least one month, using a test prep book).

Look at your classes and see which ones you can retake and improve upon. (Particularily the science related ones).

That's about it. With four years tech experience you've got the EC's covered.

Perhaps let someone look over your personal statement too.

There are plenty of people who got rejected by all schools their first time and get during the second or even third time applying. 👍

humtum, this may come off as strong and "easier said than done" but it's for your own good 😉 "I don't know what to do anymore" is false because you've heard what people have to say over and over again. I believe you posted about your sitatuion a couple of months ago, right? if we may ask, what is it that you have done when you said "the more I try hard." (I'm assuming this is referring to trying hard in making changes, if not, please disregard =) )the bottom line is you really shouldnt continue to feel completely depressed (yes, I know it's easier said than done) because in reality, you are only wasting your own time (since you say "on top of that i m getting old.") take the advice people already gave you, if you havent arleady. retake the pcat, take some easier classes to raise your GPA (to bump it up to above 3.0), etc. and as FUTURERXGAL mentioned, there's even a reapplicant section on the FAQ page.

i know from personal experience of being in sticky situations that all I want to hear, too, is advice that I want to hear (if you do x,y,z, you'll get in, or soemthing like that 😉 ) because that will make me feel GOOD. but honestly, we don't want to tell you that just so you feel GOOD now but not later (i.e. not the results you want) and if you keep waiting for that, then time really IS running out. i'm sorry if this sounds harsh but I felt like someone (if no one has yet) should tell you to stop wasting time by feeling sorry for yourself and just get up and get out and do something to actively improve your application. I'm sure most of us would be free this summer and would be willing to read any essays you have (the grammar skills could be refined a bit), or at least I personally would be willing to (after May 21st, just PM me anytime).

now take a deep breath, put **** that you're dealing with and mentally toss it behind you to start afresh for the new application cycle so you can think clearly. and don't forget to smile because I know if you make the necessary changes, you WILL get in this time 🙂

humtum.

with that kind of attitude you'll never go anywhere in life. if you really want to do pharmacy, then you shouldn't have the mentality of giving up. Getting accepted/rejected from pharm. schools isn't a life or death situation. I don't think you should give up after the first year of applying. I think first you should change your attitude and be a little more optimistic. With optimism and hope I'm sure there will be a place for you in pharmacy school in the near future. 3.0 is not a horrible gpa. I know people who got in with 2.8-3.1 gpas and they are doing well in pharmacy school. But it is YOUR gpa and only YOU can decide whether or not to change it. If I were you I would pursue a Bach. of Sci. degree, take advanced level Biology/Chemistry courses (and receive A's), you have a lot of experience so make sure your references are well-written, and retake the PCATs, along with having a positive attitude so you'll do well on the interviews next year. Also apply early! I know this may sound like a handful, but if this is really what you want to be doing then its worth it. Also, I think you shouldn't compare yourself to other applicants (if you tend to do so). Every applicant is different and unique in their own ways - and I'm sure everyone has something to bring into the pharmacy program. It seems like you have a lot to offer as well.
Why are you focusing on age? People go into school at different ages for different reasons - it seems as if you're setting a time line for yourself. If you concentrate too much on what you need to do by a certain age - then I don't think you'll enjoy life to the fullest. You should relax a little, do what you need to do, think about the important things in life and what you're blessed with, but most importantly have a positive attitude. I'm not trying to tell you what to do and yes, its easier said than done, but as a fellow 2005 pharmacy applicant its difficult seeing a person with the same career goals being so down!

Good Luck! :luck:
