Hey Guys! :welcome:
(background info)
I just finished my first year at a community college. Originally, I was planning to transfer to University of Houston for a Kinesiology degree, but I done a bit of research and became interested in their Clear Lake campus. The Clear lake campus claims that they have a "UTMB/Physical Therapy Prep," or in other words Fitness and Human Performance's degree. I have talked to my counselor and they claimed that I have a better chance of getting into UTMB with Clear Lake instead of the main campus. I would like a better insight from my peers at SDN.

Do you think that the Clear Lake would offer me a slight edge, or any advantages over the main campus? (In addition, hopefully… High Gpa/Gre will also play a role and volunteer hours)

I been browsing around the forums and seen a couple fellows of Houstonian. How is the Kinesiology program at UH?

A couple more things I would like to know.

How can I prepare for the GRE test and when should I take it? (any study tips or tricks)

Should I be limiting myself to these two programs?(What if none of these schools would help me enter PT school)

Feel free to add any comments that will prepare me for the next 5 years of my life…:scared:.

"The UHCL-FHP Plan has an articulation agreement with the Pre-Physical Therapy Plan at UTMB Galveston. When you complete this sub-plan and meet the articulation agreement, you have the opportunity to move directly into the Physical Therapy Plan at UTMB."

This is pretty good. Because of the articulation agreement UHCL has with the UTMB PT program, you could get into their PT program quite easily, if you complete the subplan at UHCL. However, if you happen to decide not to go to UTMB for PT school, I'm not so sure as to how this will help you get into other PT schools. So, I'm guessing, you would have a better chance getting into UTMB alone if you go to UHCL.

The Kinesiology program at UH is pretty good. They have the Primary Option and Health Professions track. The latter is more science based. It will definitely prepare you for PT school and other health related professions. The higher level KIN classes are not easy though.

Take a look at the sites above and compare it to the UHCL degree plan. The UH Kinesiology degree may be better if you decide to go to another PT school. However, A KINESIOLOGY DEGREE IS NOT REQUIRED to get into PT school. Both the degrees offered at UH main and UHCL are not terminal degrees. Jobs are difficult to get into with just a BS Kin. Most times, you will need to get a Masters or PhD if you want to do something worthwhile other than PT with a Kines degree.

But a prep book and a box of vocab cards for the GRE, take a class if you need to. It's really up to you and your learning style on how to study for the GRE. Don't study vocabulary 2 weeks before the test. Take the test at least 3-6 months before applications are due if you want to be careful to allow for more than 1 attempt.

Do not restrict yourself to just these two programs. Find something that will interest you and take it. And just take the prereqs along with your degree plan. Some people choose a terminal degree, so if they decide not to do PT, they can go into something that will earn them some money.
