Hello all,

I am humbly recruiting the help of each of you as I narrow down my list of which school to attend. I've been accepted to BCOM, LUCOM, ACOM, LECOM-B, LECOM-SH, and LMUCOM. Since I've been accepted at every school I've interviewed at, I'll assume an acceptance at my next two interviews: CUSOM and TUCOM-CA.
The big question is, which school would you choose to attend if you were me? Please simply cast your vote; leave a comment as well if you wish. I appreciate the feedback!

What do you value in a school? It's hard to make a recommendation for you when we know nothing about you. Most of these schools provide a fine education, so it's more about what your best fit is.

I think fit is one of the most important things when choosing a school, but that's something that only you can determine. If it was me, I would pick whatever school is the most established and reasonably priced. Congrats on all your acceptances!

Wow congrats, do you mind me asking what your stats were?

All things considered, I simply want the school that will make me as successful as possible. I'm not terribly committed to primary care either. The bind is that the schools with the best track record (TUCOM-CA, LECOM-B) have the worst facilities, and the new, unproven schools seem to have top-of-the line facilities.

So all in all, I'm not worried about tuition or cost of living. I just want a school I know I can rely on to get me anywhere I want to go--with substantial effort on my part, of course!

CUSOM or Tucom would be my picks if you like the idea of pbl and Florida area go Lecom-B (solid school with low tuition)

I'd vote DMU 😉
But congrats on all your acceptances!

If you can get into these schools OP, you should be aiming at top tier schools like MSUCOM, CCOM, PCOM, DMU, AZCOM, or Rowan.

The schools you have listed so far are considered low-mid tier, although it probably doesn't matter.

This depends on how much you care about location, curriculum (PBL at LECOM-B and LECOM-SH can be great but isn't for everybody), tuition, old school vs. new school, etc. Too many variables.

That said, I go to LECOM-SH. If you have specific questions about it, feel free to PM me.

I agree. Although, in my research I had considered LECOM-B and TUCOM-CA to be top tier....was I incorrect in that designation?

Also, thank you to everyone who has been participating! You are all a big help

LECOM is considered mid-tier to many. Although LECOM-B boasts high board scores preclinically, they start doing poorly compared to other schools during the step 2 and step 3, and many students are extremely unhappy being there. I speak with DO's and LECOM does not have a good reputation among those who attended. Also, the rotations for LECOM are not as solid. To get good rotations, you have to be top of your class or near top. They favor those with better grades.

Touro-CA seems to have some rotations that are placed far away. I had shadowed one who had to do her rotation in Michigan. The ones with solid rotations are the ones I have mentioned.

From my research, CCOM, PCOM, RowanSOM, DMU, and MSUCOM and other state sponsored medical schools seem to have the best rotations out of all the DO schools. Ohio and Texas are really good too.

I am in no way meaning this in a disrespectful way, but our votes mean absolutely nothing to you. Unless you are basing your choice off of a popularity contest I think you should sit down and go through each and every acceptance more thoroughly than you did on your primary/secondary application reviews. Choose the medical school where you see yourself being the happiest for AT LEAST 4 years at the bare minimum. Good luck and very impressive list of acceptances! 🙂

I agree ^

You should go to a school that you felt the best at. Talking to others, I realized the best fit is a school that is close to your support system. Medical school is tough, and knowing someone you love is close by can make a difference.

Go someplace that you feel you can succeed. Any school will give you the tools to succeed, and it's up to you to stay determined and focused to do that.

I picked the school I want to go to because its close to my support system, I loved the location, and I felt that I could succeed there. On SDN, there is a lot of talk about "tiers" and schools being better than others. I understand this to some point, but I also believe that any school can be a right fit, as long as you're willing to work hard.

It would help to know more about your interests. Do you want to do primary care or specialize or do you not know? Interest in rural or urban medicine? Research?

Also consider class size, location, tuition, rotation sites, etc.

I would say you would better off going to the school closest to home. Medical school can be a tough experience, and its good to have a strong support system around, and nothing is going to be better than your family, particularly your parents and immediate family.

Although I am not saying you should live with your parents while you are in medical school, its a great thing to be near your family in school because life happens and you never know when and your family is going to be your best support system in school. It becomes really important in the third year because many of the friends you make in the first two years you never see again when you move on to clinical rotations, the clinical years can be kind of tough because you are on your own. I think I was able to get through ok because I met someone.

My gut says Liberty....but there are so many rabid anti-Liberty haters on here that I don't really feel entirely settled about it, or any other school.

As someone who is not voting, because I am not a current med student, why are the majority of the votes for Tuoro-CA?

i consider myself pro liberty (one of the few) but there are several schools id pick over LU on that list

I think you should really go with what YOU think you'll be happiest in because in the end, it'll be your decision. Maybe you'll be blown away at the other two interviews!

It's true. There will be negative reviews by students at every school, so in the end I'll just choose the one I feel most comfortable at.

Thanks for chipping in everyone. I have a good idea now of what I'll do.

Ppl tend to vote touro simply because it's in CA. There are better choices on the list but location is important and people like to stay close to family. For me Cost of living, having to commute, and the facilities pushed me away from touro ca.

I would follow the rotations. Go where you think you will have the best rotations to learn enough to impress someone on an audition rotation. If you're shooting for a pre-merger ACGME (everyone will be ACGME eventually) residency your school reputation isn't going to help you because you're from a DO program. Residency programs don't seem DO schools as tiered.

If ur from Cali, go to the eastcoast for the experience

I can't recommend LUCOM.

@Goro which of these schools is the most gunner-friendly? I'm not saying I am one, but.....if it looks like a duck and it sounds like a duck.....must be a duck 🙂

Not ACOM. If you want to gun do me a favor and don't come here.

Being a gunner is not a good thing and you should not want to inspire to be one

You can aspire to be at the top of your class without aspiring to be a gunner.

I got to see the LECOM-B campus about 2 years ago, I thought it was really nice!

I think that's what I meant. I'm definitely not the d bag type you usually associate with gunners, I just like a competitive atmosphere. Sorry I came off wrong on that comment.

why did you decide on campbell??

It was just the whole package. The faculty was among the best and most supportive, the facilities are state-of-the-art, the first-year board scores were fairly impressive, Campbell University has a good track record in general (law school frequently has higher bar pass rates than duke and unc), there are substantial scholarship opportunities, the area is absolutely beautiful, it is close to several larger NC cities as well as OBX and DC, and housing is very affordable. More than anything, though, was the lack of negative factors. Other than the fact that it is still new, there were no glaring defects in the school, a novelty among those I interviewed at.

Well it seems as if you made a decision based upon sound judgement, good luck.

Glad to hear it - see you next year! Feel free to PM me with any questions. I do have to say it's not really a competitive atmosphere (we're very collaborative here), but the average scores for tests are always reported and we do have A/B/C/D grades, so that fuels my inner competitiveness, lol.

Thanks, I'll probably have plenty of questions as time passes.
