If it's a public school, they don't accept many out of state students.

(Ohio State and University of Texas -- Houston are public)

I'm not familiar with those schools but I think Iowa is pretty hard to get into if you're not from Iowa.

The schools that don't take any out of state, or just one or two, are Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Mississippi, all three Texas schools, Southern Illinois, University of Illinois, and Louisiana. Missouri is pretty picky too.

I only know Georgia (I heard from my friend- it can be wrong)!

ADEA d-school guide will give you a crystal clear idea

I'm fairly certain Mississippi doesn't take any out-of-staters. Arkansas doesn't even have a dental school, so ~15 seats at Tennessee are devoted to Arkansas. So even though they have a decent number of out of state seats...most go to Arkansas residents. Right, Georgia doesn't take any out-of-staters.

I know all this cause I'm from the South and wanted to stick around here...my options aren't as plentiful as up north!

This is true...at the interview I believe they said they actually take the least amount of out of staters compared to all other dental schools..
