So I have the MSAR, and it's great for all school statistics, but is it known which schools are notorious for a heavy screening process? I have a 3.3 undergrad GPA, but I had a big upward trend undergrad and have a 3.85 post bacc GPA. That only brings my cGPA to around a 3.41. Will schools look favorably on the upward trend and post bacc grades and maybe overlook the low GPA if I score within my practice test range on the MCAT (31-34)?

I believe all schools screen, maybe you could say that the schools like Georgetown, Drexel, Temple, GW etc.. may screen the most because their receiving the most applicants and need to sort through them at a faster pace than other schools.

But even at these schools I doubt a 3.41 gpa would automatically screen you out unless you have a terrible MCAT. I think GW and Drexel have average GPA's around 3.5 so I don't think they'd screen you out for a 3.41 because that's not significantly under their average. I was under the impression that 3.2 and below is more what would screen you out.'

And you definitely wouldn't be screened out if you're applying DO

I don't know what people mean by heavily but I know EVMS screened "extra heavily" for OOS. People who would get secondaries from other schools got rejected pre-secondary from them.

I think some of the CA schools do intense pre-secondary screens as well (UCSD and UCSF are the ones that come to mind) except that they look at things outside of the numbers.

Does anyone know if schools screen for just cGPA, or both cGPA and sGPA?

i dont think anyone (except adcoms and insiders) know about the exact formulas used in screening. however, i believe most schools use some sort of equation that takes into account cGPA, sGPA, AND MCAT. i think this is much more fair than screening based on a single criteria.
