I was at my Indiana interview a couple weekends ago and the students said that they do all their own lab work. They said they liked it because in the real world they'll know when a lab does a good job, or a bad job.

If you ask me I feel it would be a waste of time I don't have during dental school. Of course, I don't know cuz I've never been through d-school.... But when, in the real world, am I gonna be making bridges/crowns with my own hands? That's what I pay labs to do, and with Cerac technology even dental labs are squirming. Which other schools make you do all your own lab work that you know of?

I know from experience, if you don't understand and respect your lab you are definitely going to be subject to a serious PIA tax.

most of the schools do...

you have time to do the lab work, it is all part of the curriculum. pretty sure a thread like this was posted a few days ago, you can probably find some answers there

I apologize if something like this was posted a few days ago. I hate it when people do that.
Minnesota said that they do their lab work once, to know how to do it, and then never do another one... they send it out.

T-T-T-TEMPLE!!! Does.

There are rumors though that we may be upping various requirements and sending work to a lab...(ie 12 crowns and do your own lab work --> 20 crowns and send the work out).

I like the send your work to a lab and get more drilling experiance. I think the #1 reason for failed dental work in dental school is the lab work. Send out the work to be professionally done = higher quality = longer lasting, less failures.

We shall see though and no I don't mind lab work, I did decide to go to DENTAL SCHOOL!

Failure as in the student fails? Or failure as in the lab work suffers?
