Hello I'm just wondering what osteopathic schools to apply with my stats?

I am a California resident, ORM
GPA 3.0 (I am in the process of repair and should have a 3.2 come early August which is when I will submit my application)
MCAT 505

EC
College Division I athlete
Shadow DO 200+ hrs
Volunteer at UCSF, Human Race
Letter of recommendations from microbiology, biochemistry and statistics professor. 2 DO letters of recommendation

Those are the main points; I know the GPA is worrisome and I am hauling ass to get it up.

My questions are
1. What schools should I apply to? I love California, but it seems the schools here are quite competitive.

2. Comments on the MCAT and EC's?

3. Is early August considered late to submit my application? (see GPA above)

What is your sGPA, do you know? If your regular GPA is 3.0, I'd worry about your sGPA (generally for people sGPA would be a tad bit lower). MCAT is decent, but even if you got it to 3.2, you'd definitely need to apply to the lower tier/newer schools. August is not particularly late, but the earlier the better. I'd say, in my opinion, going into September to submit your primary is a little late. But it is MUCH more important to make your application and PS super solid rather than getting it in 1-2 weeks earlier.

I am really liking what you have for ECs. I'm a huge advocate for well-rounded EC's, rather than science-science-science-medical-medical-medical ECs only. Most important part is reflecting thoroughly on your experiences and relating it to medicine! Anything can be related to medicine if you try hard enough 🙂

Thanks for your reply!
Yes the sGPA is lower and will be about 3.0 when I finish retaking theses courses

I have really taken the "apply broadly" to heart and this is my current school list:
Are there schools that I included that have a strong in state preference that I dont know about? Or any schools that I didnt include?
Some (Touros) are reaches but hey I can dream

Touro- CA
Touro NY
Touro NV
AZCOM
NSU
LECOM- all
PNWU
DMU
COMP
UNECOM
CUSOM
KCMUB
PCOM
SOMA
COMP-NW
WCU
VCOM-all
LMU
LUCOM
Burrell COM

Remove KCU and CUSOM because they have cutoffs at 3.25 and 3.2 respectively for science and cumulative GPA. The state schools are a total Hail Mary but I guess if you have the money then they most likely will send you a secondary

You are definitely applying broadly, which is good. If you can afford that many schools, good for you. More chances. I know DMU is more on the higher tier of DO schools so while I am not 100% sure on their MCAT/GPA averages, I would look at their class profile before applying there specifically. Other than that, your list looks good. Maybe add MUCOM, they have stats similar to yours. I would also apply to the Western U in Cali for sure ! Great school.

I had similar GPAs, higher MCAT, and also applied from Northern CA. Make sure you get those applications in right when the cycle opens up! My school list was very similar to yours and I did have some success. I do have a tinge of "what if" thinking though because my primary wasn't complete until end of September due to some classes I was waiting for that I took over the summer. I think that you will get some interviews. Your GPA is going to be a red flag for many schools so make sure that the rest of your application is stellar. You also might want to consider adding RVU-UT.

@ZT_530
Where do you go now if you dont mind me asking? Or around what area?

Being from California I feel like I'm not competitive enough for the in states and every else prefers theirs own region. 🙁
