Hi

I know, I have pretty low GPA but I thought I would still give the US med school a shot. Doens't hurt right?. I'm an international applicant, GPA 3.3 and MCAT 31 (balanced). Good research and ECs.

Can anyone recommend a list of schools which have taken students with low GPAs like mine or if they know anyone who's had interviews/success there?

Thanks

As an international applicant with those stats, every american allopathic medical school is going to be a reach... that doesnt mean you will not get in, but it does mean it is highly unlikely unless you have amazing ECs and a one-in-a-million, tear jerking life story based personal statement. Wake Forest might be as good a place as any to take the shot because they have a focus on global health. Sorry if this post is disheartening, but better be warned than naive and heartbroken.

I'm assuming you'll be applying next year. To be honest, you might have an outside shot in some lower-tiered schools, but even those I don't know if it'll be great. International students must distinguish themselves with amazing GPA and MCAT, not to mention the ECs, but you have neither. GPA is on the pretty low side, with MCAT being average. I really dunno, it looks like a long shot for you.

A non-international US citizen would have a pretty hard time getting in with those stats.

I don't think wake forest take international applicants. I know it's a long shot, but I figured it's worth a shot. If anyone else can help think of at least some schools where I could at least try, I would really appreciate it!

Hi Catalystik, yes I am applying to DO schools as well (I'm guessing that was your advice?) just trying to expand my options since both are difficult.

Actually, I was asking about your undergrad science GPA, hoping it was greater than 3.3, before making that suggestion.

it's about the same as my cGPA. Problem is I did horrible in my first 2 years so the avg is about 3.3

year 1 3.0
year 2 3.1
year 3 3.5
year 4 3.7
Master's degree 3.8 but it was thesis reasearch based so not a lot of courses
