  1. Pre-Pharmacy

Hello Everyone,

I just recently made the switch to pre-pharmacy and needed help finding some schools that would take me with my stats. I have looked through numerous handbooks and guides that show acceptance stats of students but thought I could get some more advice based on experiences everyone else has had.

I will be applying for admissions for Fall of 2016.

Stats:
Major: Microbiology
Cum GPA:3.1 (Hopefully around 3.25 when I graduate next year)
My GPA hasn't been the best and that has mostly been because of the amount of time I spend on some of my extracurriculars. Unfortunately for me, I should have focused more on it than stuff outside of classes.
Pre-Req GPA for most schools hovers around a 3.4
PCAT: Practice tests show me getting around an 86 --> Will take it within the next few months

Extracurriculars:
2 Years as a Senior Research Fellow for a Non-Profit Organization (20 hours/week)
2 Years as a Undergraduate Researcher in the Biochemistry Department (15 hours/week)
3 Years helping manage a local business (10 hours/week)
50 Hours Shadowing at a local pharmacy
20 Hours Shadowing Clinical and Hospital Pharmacists
Currently looking for positions as a pharm tech --> I have an interview soon so that will give me a few months experience before applying to PharmCas
Pre-Pharmacy Club, Rubiks cube club, Habitat for Humanity, and 2 or three other small activities

Schools I am looking at include
Chicago State, Mercer, UGA, University of Cincinnati, UToledo, Temple

Does anyone have any other suggestions to schools that I may be able to get into, or about my application as a whole?

I appreciate the help in advance!

Pretty sure you'll get into least half of those, if not all of them (assuming your PCAT is about the same as expected). Other schools to apply to - any that would give you in-state tuition 1st or 2nd year.

Examples: UNC, UMB.

Other schools I would suggest (that seem friendly to OOS) are Minnesota and VCU.

As for application advice, get some good letters and write a decent personal statement.

I can definitely get great letters from my PI and one of the founders of the non-profit I work at. My biggest worry was that my GPA is pretty low compared to some of the averages I see when I look at the school specific sites. For example, UC was something like 3.5ish.

Also, thanks again for your input and suggestions! I'll def look into those!
