Just got my mcat score...it's not great but I am really not in the mood to retake...can i get any schools with these stats?

Lowly Stats
GPA: 3.65 @ UCLA
MCAT 29Q (BS 11, V 7, PS 11)

I'm graduating college in 3 years...

Pretty standard ECs: ER chart checker (1yr), research 1 year+ (no pubs), tutor to innercity high schol kids (7 months), CA EMT certification currently working for private amublance company (40 hrs a week while finishing school).
Church Youth Group Leader sundays for all years of college....Volunteer supervisor of hospital in high school haha...

Thanks for any advice...goodluck to all ya'll!

Do you think you could boost your MCATs by retaking them or do you think you would do worse? Your grades are really good at and outstanding school... so I think you should aim for the stars.

You'll have to retake the MCAT no matter what......they are only good for 3 years max.....some schools only accept scores that are < 2 years old.

you have a chance at many schools...i think you care most about the cali schools and you do have a chance. just dont apply to the harvards, yales, hopkins, etc cause you would waste your money.

I really have no preference to what medical school. It could be anywhere in the country as long as I stay in the US.

The thing abt graduating in 3 years is I just took the MCAT this april and I am graduating this June...my junior year of college...nothing big but I just finished a little early i guess...

Thanks for all your replies... =)...do you guys know of any specific schools I should gear up for?

Why dont you stay for a 4th year and boost up your GPA by taking more science classes and also some fun non-science classes you may be interested in learning something before you leave undergrad forever.

Thing about me is I kind of feel like I've been moochin off my parents for too long and maybe I can just do things on my own now...

To continue to go to UCLA would be tough financially for my folks...I have no more financial aid if I wanted to stay for another year + 1 year lease Apt @ UCLA is about 500-600 monthly for 1/2 of a 2 bed 2 bath...

So I chose to work and try to earn some money for myself...plus I'm takin that med schools will look at working as an EMT and maybe in a chem lab will be just as good as taking booster classes?

I'd recommend that you take a look at the Ohio schools (Cincinnati, Ohio State, MCO, Case etc...). All take a number of students from out-of-state.

Also Creighton, Loma Linda, Kansas, Finch and Drexel.

Others may beg to differ.

EDIT: You don't have a Cal State close to where you live, do you?

I really don't think boosting your gpa is that important in your case, but if you want to go that route, don't think you have to have the UCLA name on your transcript. You've already proven yourself at a top school. A Cal State school would be cheaper and perhaps closer to where you live.
